Movements, ink, watercolor, charcoal and gouache on paper, 60 x 36 inches
I paint not only to understand my own perceptual place in history; but also its images, emotions, and meaning. My own memory of such things is transposed by photography. Using large movements of watercolor on paper, I create pared down depictions of things cast from memory. Most of these images are an attempt at mapping cognitive processes through the landscape of the mundane: the daily drive between my home and studio. What may appear to be an exercise in futility, is a quiet practice pondering the engagement of experience within an increasing image-culture society.
